ING Direct is a premium financial institution that has an extensive network of branches in the United States. CD account rates at ING are lower than the market leaders in the US but many customers prefer to deposit their money with this famous banking institution.

The company offers a complete online solution to customers where they can open their accounts without any delays. There is a simple procedure of account opening as all they have to do is to sign up with ING. Following are current cd rates at ING Direct. All the rates are valid as of January 14, 2009.

ING CD Rates for an investment of six months returns an APY of 1.15%. A 9-month CD also offers the same rates at 1.15%. A 1-year CD at ING Direct returns an APY of 1.15%. An 18-month CD returns an APY of 1.50% for a basic investment of $1,000.

ING certificate of deposit rates for a 2-year CD are estimated at 1.50%. They are the same for a 30-month CD at 1.50%. Three year CD also offers an APY of 1.50%. A 4-year CD offers an APY of 1.75% and a 5-year CD also offers an APY of 1.75%.

Highest CD Rates at ING are available for four and five years of investment. ING does not offer the best rates as compared to some other companies. Their Orange CD range of certificates, however, is popular due to brand name and top rankings of the company.

When we last looked at ING Direct CD rates, they were doing well. Now, we’re finding they are still in pretty good shape compared to most of the current CD rates at other banks, nationally, right now.

Terms begin at 6 months and go out to 60 months. Current annual percentage yields (APY) are by term, of course.

For a 6 month or 9 month term, the return is 1.25% APY and for a special 12 month term the rate is 1.75% APY. For 18 and 24 months, it drops to 1.50% APY, however. Other ING Direct Bank certificate of deposit rates are the same.

For 30 and 36 months, the return is still 1.50% APY and for 48 and 60 month terms it jumps back up to 1.75% APY.

For the shorter-term, the ING CD rates offers are very good, but they get below the national average after that 12 month special. ING is steady, though, and while they might not always have the highest CD rates, they do have steady offers.

Of course, ING is completely FDIC insured to the fullest extent of the law. If your term ends before December 31, 2012, you can deposit up to $250,000 for FDIC protection. After that, it drops back down to the pre-2008 $100,000 limit.

ING Direct Bank CD Rates

Both the six and nine month short-term ING Orange CD rates are at 1.15% APY, which is very competitive on the national market right now for those terms. Those annual percentage yields are well above the national average in current CD rates at those terms, which is around 0.75% currently.

One year to 36 month terms offer a 1.50% APY, which is competitive on the shorter terms in that range, but not the longer ones. ING Direct CD rates after 18-24 months, in fact, are not nearly as good as some of the highest CD rates offered nationally right now.

For 48 or 60 month terms, ING certificate of deposit rates are 1.75% APY, which compares badly to some of the highest CD rates nationally at 3.00% for that same term.

Of course, all ING Direct bank accounts (including these CDs) are FDIC insured to the fullest extent of the law and current CD rates change often. So if any of htese ING Orange CD rates appeal to you, lock your rate in now.

Once again, we will look at the two basics kinds of ING Certificate of Deposit rates: ING Orange CD rates for consumers; and ING Direct Business CD rates.

• ING Direct Orange CDs: ING gives consumers a several CDs to choose from, with many different terms. Right now, the highest CD rate for these certificates of deposit is an an Annual Percentage Yield (APY) of 2.00 percent for the ING 48 month CD and the ING 60 month CD.

• ING Business CDs: ING also provides business CDs with several different terms to its business customers. In the past ING business CDs have had different rates than the ING Orange CDs.  However, currently the highest CD rates for ING business CDs are the same as the Orange CDs — that is, an of 2.00 percent for the 48 month CD and the 60 month CD.
