Wells Fargo Bank CD Rates November 2011 Update

To obtain the Wells Fargo Bank certificate of deposit rates a minimum deposit must be made. For the promotional rates the minimum amount is $5,000 and for the standard CD rates the minimum deposit amount is $2,500.

Upon renewal of the promotional CDs, the standard CD rates will be applied for the appropriate terms. Since our last visit to this financial institution the promotional terms have gotten longer and the rates of decreased. This can be contributed to the continuing economic struggles of the country

It has made some major acquisitions that have made it highly competitive in the US banking sector. Standard certificates of deposit haven’t changed much and these Wells Fargo Bank CD rates are still basically the same with 3, 6, and 12 month terms offering 0.10% to 0.40% annual percentage yields (APY) with $2,500 minimum deposits.  Nothing special about these current CD rates at Wells Fargo.

For the highest CD rates at Wells, the special offers are where it’s at.  Wells Fargo CD rates on these are in 7 month, 13 month, 25 month, and 39 month terms which renew in similar terms (6, 12, 24, and 36 months respectively) at regular rates.

Overall, these investments can pay off, though they may not be the highest CD rates in the nation right now.  These Special Offers on Wells Fargo Bank CD rates are as follows:

• 7 months: 0.79% APY
• 13 months: 1.37% APY
• 25 months: 1.93% APY
• 39 months: 2.88% APY

All of these Wells Fargo CD rates have a $5,000 minimum deposit.

As you may recall, Wells Fargo Bank Certificate of Deposit rates come in two basic varieties:  Wells Fargo Bank Standard CD rates and Wells Fargo Bank Special CD rates.  To be candid, Wells Fargo Standard CD rates are so low that we won’t waste your time with the details — their Standard CDs don’t go past a 12 month term length, and you would be much better of with the Corus Bank CD rates that we recently reviewed.

However, the Wells Fargo Special CD rates are worth a look:

The Wells Fargo Special 25 Month CD has an Annual Percentage Yield (APY) of 2.25 percent.  This Wells Fargo certificate of deposit requires a minimum investment of $5,000.

The Wells Fargo Special 39 Month CD earns an APY of 3.00 percent — and any CDs at 3 percent or above are something to get excited about these days.  This Wells Fargo CD also requires a minimum deposit of $5,000.

If you are looking to lock in your savings for about two or three years, you should check out the CD rates at Wells Fargo Bank.  Be sure to check the Wells Fargo Bank online banking web site to get the latest rates and terms availble in your area, because CD rates can change quickly and differ by region.

Wells Fargo Bank CD Rates

Wells Fargo Bank basically offers two types of certificates of deposit: their Standard CDs and their Special Offer CDs. We will take a quick look at the Wells Fargo CD interest rates for both of these types of CDs.

The Wells Fargo Standard CDs start with a minimum deposit of $2,500, but have slightly higher rates if your minimum deposit is $10,000, and slightly higher rates still if you invest in a jumbo CD with a minimum investment of $100,000. The problem with these Standard CDs is, in our humble opinion, that the interest rates are just too low. The best CD rates that we found for the Standard CD is an Annual Percentage Yield (APY) of 2.35 percent for a 1 year 100,000 minimum deposit jumbo CD, and frankly, that’s lower than most of the other CDs that we have reviewed on this site (jumbo or not).

So, let’s move on to the Wells Fargo Bank CD rates on their Special Offer CDs. With these certificates of deposit, things start to get a little more interesting. The Wells Fargo Special Offer CDs all require a minimum deposit of $5,000. There is a 5 month Special CD with an Annual Percentage Yield of 2.60 percent, but honestly this is not that appealing to us either. There is also a 16 month Special CD with an APY of 3.20 percent, and a 25 month CD Special with an APY of 3.75 percent.

While those Special CD rates are an improvement over their Standard CD rates, they are still lower than many (if not most) of the other CDs that we have reviewed on this site. Also, it seems that there are not any Wells Fargo Bank CDs with a longer term than 25 months. However, you may find different rates and terms for your area than we did in ours, so be sure to check the Wells Fargo web site to see all of the offers available in your area.
