Other salient features of this savings option is that they are insured by FDIC for a sum of $250,000 per investor and a Citibank Banking Card comes along with this account. This card can be used to access ATMs and to manage the deposits by phone or through the Internet. A minimum deposit of $500 is required to open the account online and the interest will be paid monthly or at the time of maturity, in the case of deposits whose term period is less than one year. In the case of CDs that have a term period of more than one year, the interest is paid monthly. It also renews automatically at the time of maturity, unless explicitly specified by the investor.
The current CD rates for a 5-year term is 2.50% APY for all amounts. The Citibank CD rates for 3-month and 4-month period is 0.25% and for a 5-month, 6-month and 7-month period, it is 0.35%. The Citibank certificate of deposit rates for a 8-month, 9-month and 10-month term period is 0.50%. It is 0.95% for 12-month period and 1.01% for a 13-month period. The rates are 1.05% for 18-months, 1.25% for 2-years, 1.50% for 3 years and 2.00% for 4 years respectively. These rates are competitive and this makes this option very attractive.
